Our main workdays are Saturday afternoons four hours before sunset. As the seasons change so does the
daylight so it makes sense to hold garden hours around the cycle of the earth.
Often it is good to show up within the first hour of the workday since we start harvesting and cleaning up (and
occasionally leave early especially if it's very hot or cold) as dusk approaches.
If you are planning on coming a call to the volunteer coordinator, Megan at (512) 422-6327, is always helpful.
Especially if rain is in the forecast you may want to call and check on the days plans.
The best way to join in the garden activities is by a gradual process as follows:
1. Come on Saturday afternoons as a volunteer for 3 to 6 weeks. This is a time to get comfortable with how the
garden is taken care of, make friends with other gardeners and figure out what committees fit your skills and interests.
2. Once you have a general feel for the garden you may sign up to visit on a weekday to give it a basic check.
3. Join or jumpstart a committee to work on researching and implementing projects.

About Committees
Wear long pants and closed toed shoes (unless you're a life long mountaineer used to hiking in a loin cloth)
Bring water, sunscreen, bug spray. Also you may find gloves handy.
Children under 12 must be supervised by a mature individual.
Dogs must be on a leash. You may also want to bring a bowl and jug of water for the pooch as well.
Quilombo is a group effort and each person has an opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the vitality of the
project as a whole. Below are areas that operate as committees or small teams. You may choose to join a committee
in which you already have a working knowledge of the subject. In other instances you may not have any prior
experience but are motivated to participate in the experiential learning process from creative brainstorming to
research and implementation.
